Day 8-Wisdom is Playing with You

Proverbs 8:30 tells us Wisdom was at the Creator's side as his master artist. Wisdom was God's daily delight. And Wisdom was delighted in us, their creation.

Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;

And I was daily His delight,

Rejoicing always before Him,

 Rejoicing in His inhabited world,

And my delight was with the sons of men. NKJV

 

I was there, close to the Creator’s side as his master artist.

Daily he was filled with delight in me

as I playfully rejoiced before him.

 I laughed and played,

so happy with what he had made,

while finding my delight in the children of men. TPT

Dictionary.com defines wisdom as "the quality or state of being wise, knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action, sagacity, discernment, or insight".  But the Bible considers Wisdom as a multi-faceted being. 

When I picture wisdom, I see a solemn old man with a long beard, like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. But in the Bible, wisdom is referred to as she.  And while there is a serious side to her, we don't want to miss out on the fun side and joy that she brings. When we invite wisdom into a situation and combine it with our experience and knowledge, the outcome is always delightful to God.

In this verse, wisdom is portrayed as a master artist. Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology says, "wisdom at one level describes skilled arts and artisans".  Wisdom delights God by creating. She stirs up our creativity when she plays with us.

 Think about this with me for a minute. You are fixing supper and discover you don't have an ingredient you need, you have to be creative.  You might use syrup instead of honey, rice instead of noodles, or corn instead of beans.  As a crafter, you see a project you want to make, but do something a little different to make it your own.  You may use a pattern for a quilt, but putting the colors together takes creativity.  She played with you as you wrote a paper, put together a marketing or business plan., and even those Facebook or Instagram posts. Think about all the handyman specials and hacks you've used.  Super glue and duct tape fix everything, right? 

What is happening? Wisdom is playing with you. She is laughing with you in delight as you explore your creativity. She playfully leads you to discover what she has for you.  Other times she laughs at your bumbling attempts to do it on your own. 

You have been created in the image of God. He is a creator, therefore you are creative. You are the perfect companion for wisdom to play with.
